What freezer repair costs — and when you know the number
Freezer repair cost comes down to two numbers: the $95 diagnostic and the repair price the technician gives you after testing the freezer.
The $95 diagnostic
The diagnostic on a freezer is $95, and it comes off the repair: agree to the job and the $95 is deducted from the price for parts and labor. You pay it separately only if you hear the price and decide not to repair — and if you change your mind later and call back, it still comes off the repair.
The repair price
The repair price itself depends on what is actually broken, and that is known after the diagnostic: one symptom can have several different causes, each with its own part and its own price. A cabinet that is not freezing can need a fan, a relay, a sensor or a compressor. The technician tests the unit first, then gives you one price for the whole job, parts and labor, and you decide with that number in front of you.

Freezer problems we repair
If your freezer is doing one of these, the technician tests the cooling, airflow, defrost and door-seal systems, names the cause and gives you one price for parts and labor — and most parts are already in the van.
Freezer not freezing
A warm or partly frozen cabinet can point to the evaporator fan, start relay, compressor or temperature sensor. The technician checks temperature and airflow, then tests the starting and cooling components before naming the repair.
Freezer not working but the fridge is
When the refrigerator stays cold but its freezer section warms up, the evaporator fan motor, air damper or defrost heater may have stopped doing its part. Each leaves different test results, so the diagnostic separates an airflow fault from a defrost fault.
Freezer icing up
Heavy frost on the rear wall or evaporator usually means the defrost heater, timer or control board is not clearing ice, or the door gasket is letting humid air in. The technician tests the defrost circuit and seal before replacing a part.
Freezer door seal replacement
A torn gasket, loose hinge or door that sits out of square lets warm air enter and creates frost around the opening. The technician checks the seal all the way around, corrects the door alignment and replaces the gasket when it no longer closes tightly.
Freezer leaking water
Water under the unit or ice on the floor of the compartment often comes from a blocked defrost drain or a failed drain heater. The technician clears the drain path, checks the heater and confirms water reaches the drain pan.
Freezer making noise
Buzzing, scraping or rattling can come from the evaporator fan striking ice, the condenser fan or the compressor. The technician listens through a cooling cycle and tests the fan motors and compressor to identify the source.

Why is my freezer not freezing but the fridge is cold?
