Called Starchenko appliance repair this Tuesday because my washer gave up on me all of a sudden! What washer repair costs — and when you know the number
Washing machine repair cost comes down to two numbers: the $95 diagnostic and the repair price the technician gives you after testing the machine.
The $95 diagnostic
The diagnostic on a washer is $95, and it comes off the repair: agree to the job and the $95 is deducted from the price for parts and labor. You pay it separately only if you hear the price and decide not to repair — and if you change your mind later and call back, it still comes off the repair.
The repair price
The repair price itself depends on what is actually broken, and that is known after the diagnostic: one symptom can have several different causes, each with its own part and its own price. A washer that won't spin can need a belt, a switch or a motor — three different repairs. The technician tests the machine first, then gives you one price for the whole job, parts and labor, and you decide with that number in front of you.

Washer problems we repair
If your washer is doing one of these, it's a routine visit: the technician tests the machine, names the cause and gives you one price for parts and labor — and most parts are already in the van.
Washer won't drain
Water left in the drum usually means a clogged pump filter, a blocked drain hose or a failed drain pump. The technician finds where the water stops, clears or replaces that part, and runs the cycle to confirm the machine empties.
Washer not spinning
On front-load machines this is often a worn drive belt or motor brushes; on top-loads, a lid switch or the motor coupling. All of these are testable on the spot — the diagnostic names which one it is.
Washer leaking from the bottom
Leaks come from door gaskets, worn hoses, a cracked pump housing or a stuck inlet valve. Mention when the water appears — during filling, washing or draining — when you book: it narrows the search.
Washer won't turn on
A dead washer is usually the door lock, the lid switch or the control board — sometimes just the outlet. The technician checks power first, then the lock and the board.
Washer not filling with water
If the drum stays dry or fills slowly, the usual suspects are the water inlet valve, the pressure switch or simply the taps and hoses behind the machine. The technician checks the water supply first, then tests the valve and the switch and replaces the one that failed.
Error code on the display
The code points at a sensor or module, but the same code can have more than one cause. The technician reads the code, tests the part it points to and confirms the actual fault before naming the price.
Loud noise, banging or shaking
Grinding or banging on spin — or a machine that finishes every load unbalanced — usually means drum bearings, shock absorbers or suspension springs. Caught early it's a normal repair; run long enough, a worn bearing can damage the drum — worth booking sooner rather than later.
